Tips for just packing a carry on?

Question

I’m going away next week, just for a weekend girls trip (Friday-Monday). I have always checked a bag so this is my first time only packing a carry on. Do they open my bag at security? Do i take my toiletries out and put them on the scanner? Just trying to prepare myself so I don’t look like an idiot haha

They won’t open your bag unless it needs searched
Put your liquids in a single quart sized ziplock in an outside pocket of your bag. 
When you get to security, you’ll take out the liquids bag, set it in a bin, and then set your suitcase on the conveyer belt to go through the scanning machine 
They’ll give you directions if you hesitate on what to do anyway. Don’t worry about it, it’s easy

The other commenter’s advice is perfect. The only other thing that I would add is to pack in organized layers. If they do search your bag, layers will keep the process organized, like you don’t want them to pull out a bunch of bras and undies first. 😂 
Sometimes something just looks weird on the scanner so they check it out. Last time, my deodorant stone set it off even though it’s been through the scanners so many times before without a problem. Finally if they do search your bag, just let them do their thing. They will tell you this as well, but don’t make any movements to grab your bag or the contents before/during the search. Basically you just stand there to observe. They asked me what my deodorant stone was and quickly tested its container. Then I was on my way.
