Not saying many words?

Question

My 23 mo still only says a few words. We’ve been doing early intervention with a developmental interventionalist and will be evaluated by a speech therapist Friday. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem. No diagnosis of autism..not that we can tell .  Makes great eye contact very loving has joint attention. Babbles a lot just has trouble forming words he tried but sounds like a whisper. Could be apraxia as he sings words or maybe it’s just delayed speech and I’m a crazy mom lol. Just nervous

My 23 month old “talks” a lot but now many recognizable words. He says mama,nana, dada, go, and go, I go. He tries to say the dogs names (Audi and Foose) but it doesn’t come out right. 
He does a lot of pointing and different noises. He goes in for a check up next month. 
He loves puzzles and books. You can give him a new puzzle and within a few minutes he can put the pieces together. He can also point out all his animals and follow complex directions. 
I narrate everything and keep it to simple words. I just feel like he is lazy and just don’t want to speak.

Our little one was the same way. Then we started playing interactive videos for her and her vocabulary increased. I figured she is just a visual learner. After a few days of watching videos she has all her colors down.

I had my son evaluated at 18m because we had the same exact issues (minus the singing ability) and he tested as a 15m old. He listens and understands everything we say, just wont repeat things back. He just barely qualified for services and we’ve been working with the speech therapist. It’s been wonderful but I’m learning that Lincoln will really talk when he’s ready. He enjoys the speech therapy play time too and he’s been grasping the sign language that she’s teaching also. His hearing was tested too - he’s perfect there. He’s just slower to speak, getting there though. Good luck!

My son has been in speech therapy and it’s been a huge help. He definitely isn’t autistic but he recently had his tonsils out cause not only were they causing sleep apnea but they think they were so enlarged it was keeping him from making certain sounds to help him talk. Keep your head up and it will get better!

I was looking for a thread on this as my son was just diagnosed with speech delay at 25 months. He tries to say words but can’t finish them ( for example, says mmm instead of moo and “cah” instead of car). I’m also looking into testing him for autism as he doesn’t always look when I say his name, but it seems to be because he’s way more focused on what he wants to do or what he’s playing with!

my daughter is also 23 months old and we're on the same exact boat. early intervention, speech therapy. we've been taking her to music class and play groups because she honestly doesnt have much interaction with other kids her age (the downside to being a stay at home mom I guess?)
