Pumping, baby in PICU

Our 17 day old baby girl is in the Pediatric ICU with an infection. I am now exclusively pumping until I can breastfeed again.

I am pumping every 2-3 hours for 15 min. I am so sore. I’ve noticed when I’m done pumping the tips of my nipples are white. I’m really good at putting nipple cream on them after pumping.

Towards the end of pumping it almost feels like needles. I’ve started to massage my breasts towards the end. That seems to help.

Any ideas what causes the white tips? Any suggestions to help with soreness?
