My breast feeding journey is over 😔

Hi guys, I just needed a place to vent because my husband doesn’t understand why I’m so upset.

About two weeks ago I noticed a lump or two in my boob, started getting the fever and the redness, I immediately knew it was mastitis and went on in to see my dr. He didn’t think it was severe, told me to use warm and cold compresses on it, hot showers, breast feed as much as possible to break the clog. I did all of that and within a matter of 3 days I was so swollen, couldnt move, red had covered my entire boob and I was so tender. I couldn’t even think about breastfeeding from that boob even I pushed through it. I’m pregnant now again, and have a 4 year old and a 5 month old. So my supply was already going so low between the pregnancy and now the mastitis. Well I decided to go back to my dr, who was shocked at how fast it had gotten worse. He still felt it wasn’t bad enough, but put me on a weak antibiotic, Dynapen, 4 times a day. After 2 days it wasn’t helping and so I went into the emergency room. They did an ultrasound and blood work and immediately admitted me, and let me know my surgery was scheduled for first thing in the morning. The clogs has turned into abscesses, the infection had gotten into my blood and I was put on an IV drip immediately. The infection cleared up fast. But the surgery left me not being able to ever breast feed again from that breast. From where the clogs were, where they had to cut, and the scarring over all from healing. My heart is just shattered knowing that breastfeeding this baby isn’t even an option.

Ladies, mastitis is so serious. Please don’t let it go, don’t try to just work clogs out yourself. See a doctor immediately ❤️.
