When are you supposed to start using an OPK?

I’ve never used an OPK before and I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ve read you should start on the 5th day of your period but why is that? Is that right?

Depending on the tracker I would start tracking day 10-15 to see when you get your surge. And this is from the first day of your period . I normally get my surge between day 11-13 but I use the cheaper OPK and then when I see my surge I use the clear blue that day only to confirm

Answer

You are trying to capture LH surge which stimulates ovulation.  LH usually happens around day 14 but can happen sooner. If you start a day or two after bleeding stops you are more likely to catch the LH surge. It can happen as early as day 10. Does that help?
