Who is responsible

Auto-driving cars are no longer a futuristic wish, and we have companies like Tesla actually selling cars with autopilot. Recently, there have been cases of these cars crashing while on auto-pilot, with one story coming yesterday of a Tesla crashing into a parked police car. 
Who is at fault for these crashes? The driver, although not in control, or the car? 
(Teslas do have an override feature where the driver can re-take the driving from auto-pilot, but they would have to do this quite quickly to prevent a crash.)

Definitely the person at the wheel. When I go into cruise control I don’t blame the cat for speeding. People on the car should be paying attention. I actually think it’s against the law to not have one hand on the wheel even though you aren’t driving. It’s not like being on a train or a bus.

Driver. I’ve test driven multiple Teslas in Brookhaven and you have to “alert” the car to your presence every 2-3 minutes by tapping on the wheel. If that feature wasn’t there you could literally put a dead body in the car and send it across the US since it would never know if you’re okay or not. Ultimately just like with any car it is up to the driver to pay attention to the road and make sure that the car is not malfunctioning. However, in cases of legitimate recall or malfunction issues with the software, it comes down to joint responsibility between the company and driver.

The crash thst was reported in my state out the driver at fault cause she had her hands off the steering wheel for more than 30 seconds and could have prevented the crash.

It's absolutely the person "driving" who is at fault. They chose to buy that vehicle and use that feature and not pay proper attention while using it.

the driver. Tesla's self-driving feature is still in development and not meant to be turned on so the car can drive itself with no human interaction. at the moment, it's more of an assisting feature than self-driving because again, it's still being developed further. the car manual, website and everything you see before purchasing the car tells you -- this feature is still in development, do not use it without being behind the wheel and just as attentive as you would be driving yourself. this goes for all other "self-driving" cars as well; none of them have graduated out of the development phase. so, it's definitely the driver's fault.

the deiver is still in the car as a secondary help to the car, if the car can't sense something in front of it then the person inside should still be paying attention if shit happens. plus the tech isn't that fantastic yet so it's both the person in the car for not paying attention, and the tech creators for not properly checking the vehicles reaction sensitivity

I believe the law says the driver is. You're required to have a driver at the wheel at all times who is able to override and stop the car if say it rolls into a cop car.

I mean yes the person is liable. but so is the company. Don't sell the feature and expect people not to be dumb enough to heavily rely lol. some self driving cars drive better than most the population so sometimes thank God for them ha.
