For those of you who have given birth, did you take birthing classes?

I think it helped my husband more than me. I knew a lot of the info already but he didn’t. Getting us both on the same page about what to expect, and letting him know how he can be supportive during labor was worth it.

I had my first baby at 18 and didn’t take birthing or parenting classes. Before I left the hospital the staff made sure I knew how to latch baby for breastfeeding, bathe and change him. They said to call or come back if o had questions or problems. I never did. As far as labor and delivery, I was fine without classes. My mom was there, my ex was but basically useless, and one specific nurse never left my side. I bet she really had to pee after 8 hours! I’ve had five babies since and still have never taken a class

I wish it had been more helpful. I read a couple books and felt like i got more than the class. My husband didn't even pay attention and was not helpful. Ugh. Making a birth plan/ preferences was more helpful to me.

I did not take any classes but I have been in the room while my sister was laboring twice (not the whole time). I have also been surrounded by many family members and close girlfriends who all talk very openly about their experiences so I was not surprised about anything that happened. I also planned to accept any and all form of medication for pain management so I didn’t feel much of a need to learn breathing strategies and what not for getting through the contractions. I did just fine with my first Labor... although I ended up having a C-section after pushing for 5 hours... maybe I would say something different if I had succeeded with a vaginal delivery...? 🤷🏼‍♀️

First birth: took the hospital’s birthing class and it was useless
Second birth: took a birthing techniques/Lamaze type class and it was AMAZING!!
This birth: going back to the Lamaze coach for a refresher course because my second birth was so fabulous!

I took them, and really enjoyed it. I probably would have been perfectly fine without them, but it helped me lay out my must haves vs wants when it came to my birth. I ended up with a c-section, so no pushing....but I still felt like it was worth it. Even just meeting some mommas who were due around the same time was worth it!
