Natural birth in hospital

First time mom and really wanting to go all natural in the hospital. Ive read up plenty that you can refuse IVs ect to avoid being hooked up to machines because id like to be able to move as freely as possible. Just wondering if any of you ladies have any tips, stories or good techniques to share from labor to dealing with nurses.. Im very nervous about the pressure that may come from nurses to try hooking up IV's ect but have also read that you are aloud to deny absolutely anything as long as you/baby aren't at risk..
