Jamie Oliver: Should He Stop?
Ahh Jamie Oliver. Peak British chef. Campaigns and controversies at every corner. Here’s some examples
• slaughtered a lamb on TV
• persistently trying to get school meals HIS way
• persistently trying to get lunchboxes at school regulated
• grossly undermines the poor and the expense of food for them
• campaigned tirelessly for the sugar tax (yet his drinks aren’t close to being sugar free)
• promotes the view that the poor are lazy for not making fresh produce meals although the can’t afford it
• then charges extortionate prices in his restaurants
• wants cartoon characters banned on cereal
My point is:
Is this fair? Is it right?
Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but should he be promoting and campaigning for things like this? He’s full of double standards and his views as an esteemed and successful chef can be damaging. Of course I’m not arguing that the sugar tax is a bad thing, but wouldn’t it help if he was campaigning to get healthy fresh foods to be an affordable price for the whole of the British public instead of just those with money and then penalising the poor? And what’s your opinions on banning cartoon characters on cereal boxes?
Lots of people love him. He’s got good ideas and he campaigns for what he believes in. But should one chef that attempts to capitalise off the poor in such a way be such an influential figure in implementing these food and drinks regulations? What are your thoughts on this
