iud??? do or dont

Question

i want to get off the pill because i cant loose weight have reallt bad mood swings and its killing my sex drive. however i dont want to go without something other then condoms alone. the copper IUD has been on my mind but im still unsure.  does anyone have any experience or knowledge for me

I have had my copper IUD for two years and LOVE IT.
I'm 27, never been pregnant. Here's my personal experience with it: 
-take a bunch of Advil before the appointment, and make sure you're well hydrated. Bring a friend or your SO, in case you're dizzy and need them to drive you home.
-getting it put in was uncomfortable, but not unbearable or super painful-- felt like a pinch, similar to a PAP smear. I went to the local Planned Parenthood rather than my normal doctor, which I think was a good choice. PP is really experienced putting them in, so I think that contributed a lot to how fast and relatively comfortable it was. 
-I was a little sore for a week or so after, but it was more like I was aware something was different than an actual pain. Returned to normal sex life after about 4 days. 
- the first 3 periods or so were AWFUL. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but oh my God the cramps were terrible. I felt like I was being torn apart, and kind of like I was pooping (sorry, TMI, but the only way I can think to describe it). My flow was also much much heavier. My doctor perscribed diclofenac (an NSAID, like Advil but better), and I got Livia (basically a cramps-centric TENS machine) to help with the cramps. Both are life savers. 
-after 3 months, things started tapering down. Starting around the 1 year mark, everything seems to be about the same as it was pre-IUD whenever I wasnt on hormonal BC. I think maybe a little more flow at the beginning, but they are a day or two shorter.
-I was constantly freaked out it had fallen out or moved or something for the first 8 months or so, and checked it daily, but eventually learned to trust it and only check once a month now. 
-I love never worrying about it, and not needing to remember anything or do anything to make sure its doing its job. It's about as fool proof as you can get.
-My partner can feel the strings, but says it doesnt bother him.
-Only real downside is I felt like the occasional suction from taking a period cup out could pull the IUD out, so I decided to switch back to tampons. 
Overall, I am glad I got it, and would make the same decision over again.
