Is 2 weeks notice optional?

So2 days ago I applied for a summer job and just yesterday I got and interview and then got the job. I start tomorrow, and I’m already scheduled for next week too, but I didn’t think id get the job so I didn’t give my 2 weeks, is it okay to just quit?

talk to them. they may be understanding and atleast you didnt just disapear. reminds me of a chick who went for lunch break where i used to work n she just didnt return. from lunch! lol

No one can stop you from just not coming in. It’s never a very good idea to burn a bridge though. You never know when you may come in contact with old bosses and stuff again.

If you ever might need to go back to work there or want to use them as a reference I wouldn’t but if you don’t care about that then go for it. At my job if you don’t give 2 weeks then all your paid vacation hours disappear instead of getting paid out to you so maybe look into that as well

I've done it where I had to leave less than 2 weeks out ( I was moving) and i think if youre in good with your current job, you can let them know that you have to leave asap but still be able to write a 2 weeks notice so it's on record. obviously dont be like, I got a new job suckers! lol just say you have reasons you'd rather not say disclose but youd like to leave in a professional manner.

Depends on your contract and where you live. If you’re casual you should be fine to just quit, if you’re permanent, you might be required to give notice.
