How to adjust to LDR?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for about 10 months. We met in University. He is originally from Zimbabwe, and yesterday he had left to go back home. We've spent so much time together, and I am really worried that the distance and time zones will really be a hard shift to make. We are both going to be starting up our lives separately, attending different schools and working. I am worried that we won't have time to connect woth each other. How do you all adjust from having a close, in person relationship to a long distance one? We can't easily visit eavh other due to the costs of going between the US and Africa.
