Calling all mothers that have had experience breastpumping at work!
So I'm currently going through a challenging time at work where I feel like some of my co-workers,and higher authority is going against me. Just a little background information:I work in a male-dominated job with one other female, this is my first time having a baby while working for them, and my first time having to pump at work. My older child is in his teens and I stood home with him for a majority of the first few years so this is all new to me. The fact that I have to pump doesn't seem to be the problem it's that, although I requested to be left inside, they decided not to allow me(knowing that they have made plenty of accommodations for other breastfeeding moms)so my having to take breaks started to interfere with mine and my partners work performance. This in turn fell down on all of my other coworkers because after finishing their own work, they weren't allowed to take it easy because they had to either pick up where we weren't able to or be available just in case. Now I understand the frustration of both my coworkers and of higher authority but the problem is that had they just went through with my original request, all of this could have been avoided. Now since they didn't, and people are already pissed off because they feel like I'm doing something wrong, I go through times of feeling uncomfortable at work. Has anyone been in a similar situation or if not, how did your job accommodate you? I think the law should be more clear because I feel like enough moms get discouraged after experiencing such discomfort. It's almost embarrassing to have to jump through so many hoops just to do,in my opinion, what's best for baby. Thank you in advance for your replies. Please keep it kind😊
