Latch issues

Brenley

My son and I have struggled with breastfeeding since he was born. He was born at 8 lbs 15 oz and quickly dropped to 7 lbs 14 oz. We syringe fed to supplement in the hospital and for the first two days home. He was tongue tied along with some other jaw things and we did a frenectomy on day two. I though it was getting better and easier, but after meeting with a Lactation consultant, it seemed that it was going to be difficult to get him to transfer. Then two days later, We went back to the pediatrician to get his tongue clipped for a second time, but pediatrician recommended holding off to see if it resolved its self. The lactation consultant was surprised he recommended this because Baby hadn’t gained any weight since being discharged. I kind of hit my emotional breaking point of battling to get him to latch, not knowing if he was getting any or much from me, and for the last two days have been exclusively pumping. I’ve tried a few times to get him to latch prior to feeding, and he won’t get anywhere close to latching. We go to the chiropractor and back to Lactation and pediatrician this week. Is there any chance he can relearn to latch if we have been bottle feeding for the past two days? I would really like to breastfeed if we can get some of the oral things figured out, but I am afraid I’ve ruined his ability to breastfeed because I couldn’t emotionally take the struggle of latching, not transferring, and lack of weight gain. Thanks for any advice :-).
