Can you take flowers in to hospitals?

I was buying flowers today for my grandad in hospital and some woman asked what the flowers was for and when I told her she said that its illegal now to take flowers to hospitals?? I bought them anyway but is it true?

Where I live you can't have flowers in the ICU, but in other wards it's fine. Ask a nurse when you arrive and they'll tell you if it's ok or not.

So I think she over stated with the term illegal.  However it is not a good idea nor safe to bring any type of flowers to a hospital . Flowers bring fungus and bugs which can be deadly for immunocompromised patients (which most all people in the hospital are)

Depends on the unit you’re going to. Oncology floors don’t allow it in certain rooms along with fresh fruit for some patients who are immunocompromised or undergoing chemo etc. just ask the nurses before bringing them in.

Maybe call the hospital to check with them? See if they have some regulations against flowers?

Most ICUs will not allow it, but it’s fine otherwise. I’ve worked in hospitals for almost 5 years and never seen an issue with flowers.

When I was in the hospital recently I could have my flowers bc I was in the ICU but they kept them for me & my family took them home

Flowers in a hospital are not illegal. However if your grandfather is on oxygen or in the ICU or otherwise in a ward where they have to be really careful, he might not be able to accept them. You can call ahead and ask if it's okay. My father is a pastor. When he makes hospital rounds, he brings a card with a handwritten note and their favorite candy bar.

I dont think its illegal but some places wont accept them because of allergies and stuff! Ask when you get there
