Why do they hurt?

I've heard a lot about pap smear. I know what they are, but why do they apparently hurt so bad?

A pap smear is where they take a scraping of your cervical cells during a pelvic exam to check for abnormal cervical cells that can turn into cancer. It's very important that all women have pap smears regularly. It doesn't hurt for everyone. It is a little uncomfortable usually.

I don’t think they hurt! One time I had a crummy dr and it was uncomfortable but it wasn’t painful.  Sometimes they can be uncomfortable because we tend to clench up - understandably so.

It shouldn’t cause pain. You may feel pressure when the doctor inserts he speculum and when he swabs your cervix it may cause slight cramping for a moment. You should only feel a little bit of discomfort.

It doesn’t Hurt.  Just feels weird.

Its mostly just mildly uncomfortable. One of my only hurt once just because they accidentally got my tissue slightly in the tool they use.
