Getting Fit!

Sports seasons are starting soon as the school year is coming around again, and my coaches are telling me to get fit for the season. I don't think I'm "unfit" as I'm very athletic but I'm not a very good runner due to lung issues (asthma, previous cases of phenomena, etc) and knee problems. I play Field Hockey and do Color Guard during the same season (often on the same days). I was just wondering does being a slow runner make me "unfit"? Also do you have any suggestions on how to stay fit during the off season ?
