how do ovulation test work?

can someone explain to me how ovulation tests work and when you shouls use them? also how do you read them?

Answer

The instructions for the easy@home tests say the test stripe has to be as dark as the control stripe.  I thought I finally got a dark enough stripe, so to be sure I used a ClearBlue digital ovulation test and the result was negative.  When I looked at the test vs control stripe they weren’t the same colour and the instructions say they have to be the same.  If not, then the easy@home also considers it a negative 🙁
