Future Vet?

Question

I am planning on studying to become a veterinarian. If any one has any advice please feel free to talk to me. I have  looked into many vet schools that I would possibly want to attend after going to my four year college. I'm currently a senior in high school.. Whoop whoop!  2019! I would really love it if anyone has an experiences or tips they would like to share! Thanks so much. 💗💗💗💗

Yup, I’ll be a Freshman in college this year and I’m going to Graduate with a bachelors in Science and then go to Vet school. I currently work as a Veterinary Assistant at a local small animal hospital. Listen, animal medicine is HARD HARD WORK. Puppy’s and kittens are 30% of the job. 
If you’re not into grunt work, if you can’t see yourself performing euthanasia’s and if you aren’t keen to have customers question your decisions and your expertise, be sure to look into other professions.
If you’ve made up your mind already I    support you 100%! ❤️❤️❤️
But for someone who’s already getting a taste of the animal medicine career path, it is not for the weak-minded or weak-stomached for that matter.

My first day of class in orientation to pre-vet science, the teacher told us to raise our hands if we wanted to go to vet school (pretty much every one did). She then told us to look around and understand that each year only 3-5 students out of 100 sitting there will get in, and to basically have a back up plan and don't mess up. It's a LOT of hard work to get in and you need to be prepared to have a nearly perfect gpa and have as much volunteer experience as possible. I'm not trying to discourage you, just don't play around

It’s intimidating. It’s hard and nerve wracking. Make sure you have lots of experience with animals/veterinarians, AND volunteer work. 
Know WHY you want to be a vet that’s not “oh I just really love animals.”
Be VERY open about all parts of agriculture. You never know when you’re going to be working on a farm for some “random” company. 
Be open to the fact that you may have to apply more than once. Have a backup plan for this very reason. 
Be active on campus. (As undergrad I was in a sorority, five clubs, three organizations, and held one leadership position for the largest organization that wasn’t my sorority.)
Make friends with your professors, especially the ones who are well known within the agriculture industry as well as the vets. They will be the ones you want letters of recommendation from! 
Don’t stress over the small things. It is OKAY to get B’s in tough science classes. It is OKAY to mess up on tests. But always talk to whatever professor is there and see what you can be doing better. Don’t settle!
