Breastfeeding my friends baby

Kellie

Okay... so he isn't actually drinking from my boob, but he is drinking my milk.

My friend gave birth to her son 3 months after I gave birth to my daughter (my LO is now 4 months and her LO is 1 month). She hasn't' been able produce a lot of breast milk because she had a breast reduction surgery years ago where they had to move the placement of her nipple. Also her nipples keep cracking and bleeding really bad when she tries to breastfeed. She was even put on nipple rest while in the hospital after giving birth. She is still pumping several times a day but only getting less than an ounce total each time.

I felt so bad that I offered to give her some of my frozen supply. I had to give up dairy for my LO because she wasn't reacting well to it so everything I gave my friend was pumped and frozen prior to me eliminating dairy from my diet and I couldn't give it to my LO anyway.

I gave her an entire "box" and a half of frozen milk and still had an entire one full.

My daughter is getting plenty of milk and I am able to pump more than enough and was running out of room in the freezer.

It felt so good to help her out and to help make sure her baby got breast milk along with the formula they are having to give him.

I want to give her as much as I can so I am pumping more than I would normally and going to start giving her fresh milk too.

Obviously making sure feeding my daughter comes first- but why not help a friend and her baby?

We joke that one day if they get married we can tell the story at their wedding that he used to drink his mother-in-laws breast milk 😂

UPDATE: I have been able to start giving my friend fresh milk! It's not a ton, but I'm giving her 12+ oz every 3 days.

The jar on the right is for her (12 oz) and the one on the left is for my baby (14.5 oz) that I will give to my mother-in-law for the day she watches my LO while I'm at work.

UPDATE: my friend was told by someone that you should only give someone else's breast milk to your baby from a mom who has a baby that same age because their milk changes with the baby as they grow and their needs change. She was curious if she should continue to give her baby, who is 3 months younger than mine, my milk. She is going to ask the pediatrician as well but doesn't have an appointment for another few days.

I wanted to get an option from all of you ladies.

Is it okay for her to continue to give my milk to him?
