Do ultrasounds hurt?

Don’t they have to stick something up your vagina when they do an ultrasound? I’ve never done one before. I can’t even use tampons because my vagina is too small to get one in there & tampons hurt me. & my husband’s penis will barely go in there too because my vagina is so small.? I’m so scared an ultrasound will hurt! :( ?

There is some pressure but no it does not hurt. If you could make a baby you can handle the ultrasound.

The wand used for transvaginal ultrasounds is way skinnier than any adult penis. You’ll be fine.

Depending on how far along you are, they will offer either a transvaginal ultrasound or an abdominal ultrasound. If you don’t want a TVU, you have every right to decline! We decline all TVUs and ONLY do select abdominal USs due to the risks associated with them. Remember - this is YOUR baby, YOUR body, YOUR birth. YOU decide which doctor/midwife to hire for treatment and YOU decide what procedures you want to accept, decline or alter.

I think if you’re after 9 weeks, they’ll do an abdominal scan, but if you get a transvaginal, I personally think the “duck lips” they use to do your yearly check-ups are 100x more uncomfortable than a transvaginal ultrasound. It’s a pretty skinny scope (idk what to call it) so I really wouldn’t worry about it.

There will also be LOTS of lubricant to help. Once it’s in it’s not bad at all.

I had a miscarriage the day following a transvaginal ultrasound so this pregnancy I am not having an internal ultrasound. Do your research on what is best for you, I was so shocked to find out miscarriages after early ultrasounds are common.

A speculum is 1000x worse. I barely noticed anything but some pressure.

It wasnt uncomfortable and didnt hurt at all. literally felt like a tampon applicator
