Failed Hycosy - please help
Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone can help in this group because I feel so confused. I’ve been TTC for 18 months, have recently gone private as NHS support isn’t available to us and underwent a Hycosy test today. My husband has had good results from his sperm analysis but I have irregular periods. Our consultant advised that if my tubes were clear following Hycosy then I could start with clomid to help ovulation. They initially thought this was the problem because of my irregular cycles.
So my Hycosy procedure today was unbelievably painful. They tried two different catheters, the first one wouldn’t stay in and when they started to inject the dye for the 2nd one the pain was excruciating. They stopped the procedure and didn’t even manage to get any scans of my tubes because they couldn’t successfully inject the dye.
My consultant spoke to me shortly after and said that this was unusual and in his experience it was most likely due to a blockage or muscle spasms which wouldn’t allow the procedure to happen. He told me to book an appointment so that I can discuss next options but basically said that the clomid route is not worth going down now.
I’m confused because how do they even know that I could have a blockage if they didn’t even manage to inject any dye in? I’ve read about ladies with tube blockages where they have scanned and seen the dye in the tubes restricted by the blockage but I didn’t even get that far!
Feeling incredibly down 😭 just wondered if there are any ladies who have had a similar experience? Or are there any other procedures that would be able to check my tubes if Hycosy isn’t possible?
