Ttc before husband deploys

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 10 months. He is also getting deployed around September. I so badly want a baby. Should we see a fertility specialist before he goes? I have heard that you usually want to wait a year after trying to see one but we are in the clock.

Also has anyone gone through pregnancy while there husband was gone? I talk to friends and most people tell me I should just wait until he comes back and go on birth control now.
