PROS/CONS of eye ointment at birth?

Please list your pros/cons. Not debating which is better or what my baby should have, just wanting to hear your pro con list.

Cons:
Unnecessary if you know you don’t have STDs or step b
It’s uncomfortable for baby, like slathering Vaseline on your open eyes
Baby needs to see moms face and nipple for breastfeeding which is already difficult for a newborn without adding antibiotic eye ointment unnecessarily

I worked for an eye doctor for over a year and the pros are obvious that it could help with any possible infection even though the risk is low. Not many cons. Their vision is not developed at that point to see you enough to recognize you or really anything at that point if you are concerned about that.

Honestly I didn’t even notice when they did it. There really wasn’t any cons

pro it helps fight any infection in the eyes
con when they do it you baby dont open their eyes for hours after ward.

its required by law in my state. So I honestly don't know much about it other than it helps prevent infections

You can ask for delayed eye ointment, so baby can look at you in those first minutes. They will generally wait an hour or two if you ask.
