Ringworm

Can anyone explain to me what ringworm is... my boyfriend is putting on a cream on his dick that says it’s for ringworm, his private part has spots that are lighter than his skin color. It is just at the very bottom of the dick , I don’t know if it could be passed on, I don’t feel like I have anything but I would like to get more information if anyone knows anything about it.
