Are you afraid that death hurts?

Question

I lost two close family members within three months from natural causes, but it has gotten me so anxious that death is going to hurt. I want to see if I'm alone in the fear.

I'm not afraid of death hurting. I think when we die we are at peace and nothing really hurts anymore. That and the fact that science has proven we lose our senses slowly as we die, sight, hearing, smell, feeling. But I'm afraid of what comes after it. Everything we've ever learned, the people we have interacted with, the things we've done... what does it all mean and where do we go? I suffer from anxiety and depression, so my thoughts are very repetitive and I can't shut them off. So as much as I'd hate to dwell on it, I literally can't help it. But at the end of the day I tell myself these things are inevitable. We have no control over it, nor can we change it. We just have to learn to accept it.

When I was younger, the only reason I didn’t kill myself in any other way than pills is because I’m afraid of pain, but I also had almost no way to get pills so all my attempts inevitably failed. Then finally as an adult my doctor prescribed me ambien and Ativan, and I was honestly planning to finally do it, but my brother died of a heroin overdose the next day (accidental). I still suffer heavily from depression, but now I could never do that to my family knowing how horrible it felt when he passed away, and feeling a lot of anxiety about death in general. I’m very sorry for your loss :( 💜💜💜

I am more worried about the pain rather than what happens after. We have no control over it but at least everyone will be going through the same thing. Whatever it is.
