What size clothes should you get for a newborn ?

I am a soon to be mom this will be my first child btw I have been shopping around for my baby boy what size should I mainly get ? Someone told me to only get a few newborn clothes b/c babies grow so fast 
What sizes should I start out with ?

Everyone is different. My husband was huge at birth so when my first was born no one got newborn sizes only 0-3 month. My baby came out around 6lbs, so I had to get preemie stuff for her. Now I buy a few preemie outfits (enough for 1-2 weeks) a few newborn (enough for 2 weeks) and a bunch of 0-3 month (enough for 3 months) just to be safe.

only get a few newborn some 0-3 and focus on 3-6 my first 2 kids skipped newborn and my first went straight to 3-6 months. they were both over 9lbs though they were only estimated to be 7lbs. my 3rd was said to be 9lbs she came out 7lb6oz so we had to buy more newborns. but better to not waste too much on newborns just in case. my family and hubbys family were more then happy to have an excuse to buy baby girl clothes

Depending on their guess on how much your baby will weigh, I'd get a few if I were you. In my case my son was born weighing 5lbs 7oz, he is now 3 months and currently still in newborn and sometimes 0-3 month.

If you’re having a baby shower you might just focus on 3-6 month for now. Everyone always wants to get the cute little clothes and you’ll end up with a ton. After your shower you can reassess and get a few of newborn/0-3 month.

My baby was 7 14 and her newborn clothes were HUGE for a couple weeks. I thought they looked ridiculous small, but nope.

It really all just depends. My daughter was 7lbs 9oz & 20.5” long. She was in preemie clothes for a week. Newborn for a month and a half. 0-3 lasted her for a few months but the ones she’s stayed in longest were definitely 6, 6-9, and 9 months.
