Can someone explain tummy time?

This is my first baby and i know its when a baby spends time on their belly but at what age do you start tummy time and what else do i need to know about it?

We were told to start when the umbilical stump fell off..short intervals to start and gradually increase. (S)he probably won't be keen on it in the beginning but stick with it

Tummy time helps them strengthen their core.  This is important for crawling and walking later on. Start early on even if it's real short amounts of time like under a minute.

There are some little pillows that help to prop your baby up a little so they aren't face down in the carpet in he beginning.

Where I live they said we can do tummy time from the time they're born just for 3 mins at  a time untill they start to have longer wake times.

My baby’s doctor wanted us to start tummy when she was around 5 weeks old for about 5-10 minuets a day. You never want to leave them unattended while they’re doing tummy time because they could suffocate

i started doing tummy time at 1mo its to prevent flat head but my youngest still got a flat head even tho he did tummy time all the time it was just the way he would sleep on his back it wasn't that bad but it was noticeable

I started it right away, short intervals and gradually extending the length of time. It’s so they build up muscle in their necks. It also helps with their skulls maintaining proper shape. Mine hated it at first but eventually grew to like it. 💗
