Pacifier and exclusive pumping questions
Hello everyone,
New dad here with our now 1.5 week old and we're trying to establish a pattern, but our little one sometimes beats to her own drum. The 5 S's work great 9 out of 10 times. However that one time it doesn't work is a doozy.
My wife wants to continue breastfeeding, but she's just so drained with all the feedings, especially during cluster feeding time. I feel so helpless as a husband. I try to help in anyway possible, but there's no stopping the hunger and I have to wake mom up to feed.
Last night, I threw a pacifier in her mouth while she (my wife) was napping and I was working with a failed 5S session; none of the tricks were working and she was not having it. To my surprise, it worked magically. She sucked in the pacifier and fell asleep in like five minutes! I was so excited, in husband fashion I woke up my wife to deliver the fantastic news! But when I told my wife she was not happy at all for two reasons, one, don't use a pacifier, and two waking her up for this.
I don't fully understand why we cannot use a pacifier now if it worked so well?
I spoke with a friend of mine and she said she exclusively pumped and used a pacifier all the time but she doesn't think that works for breastfed babies. After learning about exclusive pumpers, what are the pros and cons of that? It seems like the best option for wife and husband, but I don't know.
Anyway sorry for the long post for two simple questions.
