Do it! But do more research on the type of short hair cut you should get to go good with the shape of your face. Every hair cut looks different against different shaped faces. 
The hair cut I have goes good with the shape of my face, for example.

I think you should go for it and remember, it will grow back. So you have to reconsider about the growing back process too.
But for my experience, I was going for the first picture you posted but my hairdresser fu*ked it up and I’m left with this crazy curly hair. But I’m just dealing with it until it grows back. But good luck!

Go for it, it’s just hair. Recently did something similar, myself and it super brought out my curls. I love it.

you should do it! it does grow back, and it might look a little awkward when it grows back (if you do grow it back to the longer length). but you can do whatever you want! it’s your hair.
