When do you normally start ovulation testing?

I have PCOS and normal have about 40-50 day cycles.  I’m on Metformin and last month only had a 30 day cycle.  I’m hoping this is the Metformin working. But I’m wondering when I should start ovulation testing for 30 day cycles.

Just to be safe I test on CD 10 bc it’s possible for me like you to have a 30 day cycle. But I just use the clear blue digital advanced so I don’t have to guess about the line color. If mine shows up as low (empty circle) I test every other day until it switches to high (flashing smiley face) just to save on sticks and once it’s high I test every day until I get a peak (solid smiley face). My cycles have been 31-51 days over the past 8 months and I’ve gotten peaks CD 19-36. Hopefully this is helpful. ❤️

I read a book saying to subtract 20 days from your cycle length and start that day.
