tampons?

Question

so, i have never used a tampon in my life! it just scares me knowing that i could get toxic shock. however, i want to be able to swim on my period. any tips?
note: don't tell me to use a diva cup because those scare the crap out of me

Been using tampons since around 5th grade, 28 now. Nothing all that scary just follow the clearly outlined instructions using the lowest absorbency for your body's needs. I personally keep lights, regulars and supers on hand. As well as pads. You've got this and enjoy the pool.

Tampons are safe as long as you use them according to your flow and you don’t leave them in past the recommended time. 
I used to use tampons and I would forget to change them. So about a year ago I started to only use pads. Now I’m at the point where I use pads 90% of the time, and I only use tampons when I’m working (because I’m a lifeguard and have to wear a bathing suit and pads to stick to bathing suits) or when I go to the gym. 
When I used tampons all the time I always used Super but now I only use regular. I rather change the tampon more frequently.
