My First (Tiny) Surgery!?

My name is Carolynn and I’m having my first tiny surgery at the age of 17! It’s a tonsillectomy but I’m super nervous and I was wondering if anyone had gone through this at almost an adult age or if anyone has any advice or encouraging words/stories? My surgery is also super scary because it’s 8 days before the first day of my senior year!

I had my tonsils out at 17.  Not going to sugar coat it, it was awful. I woke up to a super dry mouth and sore throat and for the following two weeks I could barely swallow/eat. It was very painful.  That was just my experience. Yours could be better!

I had mine removed at 18. But I'm a special case because I also had them removed in kindergarten but they grew back somehow. (Doctor explained it but it's a lot of medical terms) having them taken out as an adult was a lot harder to me but popsicles make all the difference! Make sure you eat easy stuff like mashed potatoes, ice cream, milkshakes (with spoon) things like that.

got them out when i was 17, barfed after wakeing up that sucked. but they gave me alot of drugs to take home like way more than i needed. so that was fun. lived on popsicles and sorbet for like a week.

Tonsillectomies suck big time!!!! I got mine done at 19. Worst. Pain. EVER. My advice to you- Try to wean yourself off the pain meds as soon as you can, or else you’ll be in a fog. Take extra strength Tylenol. And stay hydrated. Please please please. It will make it so much easier on you. Don’t let your throat get dry. Make sure you eat too. My recovery was 11 days and I didn’t eat or drink ANYTHING during that time and ended up in the hospital from dehydration. I lost 19 pounds in that period!! Talk about rough. Lol. Follow your doctors instructions no matter how bad it hurts. Good luck.

I had my wisdom teeth taken out when I was 17, the day after Christmas. It wasn’t bad. The most annoying part was that when I got home, I wanted to sleep but my mouth wouldn’t stop bleeding. 
And my friend got her tonsils taken out our senior year as well. She missed like 2 weeks of school, but she recovered well. Good luck!
And just a little grammar tip (not trying to be insulting at all, this is just one of my biggest pet peeves), it would be “had gone”, not “had went”. 😊

Had mine taken at 20, the six months leading up to it I had strep non stop. It will be slightly painful, mostly annoying. Just DO NOT RUSH EATING. I can’t stress this enough. After two weeks of ice cream, jello, mashed potatoes, I was DETERMINED I was going to eat that piece of fried chicken....ended up silently crying and going back to my mashed potatoes, completely defeated. But on the bright side, Any time I’ve been sick since (now 30) my throat isn’t nearly as bad. Had strep once and didn’t know it. So might just keep an eye on that lol
