I said no because every pregnancy is different, women can get really big the first and not show much the second or vice versa. Maternity clothes can be expensive and if you don’t know how big you’ll get then to me it isn’t worth it. I have been able to use the same bras, most shirts and dresses my entire pregnancy but I had to get new pants and shorts around 20wks. 
If you find something cheap then I guess it wouldn’t hurt, but I’d hate to buy something and not be able to use it.

I said no because You never know how you will be pregnant. You can be all belly or you can gain weight all over. You shirt size and pants size would all change based on that factor.
For example: I normally wear pants size 4-6 and a small to medium shirt. My maternity clothes are all XS! I had a few people gift me with maternity shirts when i first announced my pregnancy and they were too big and I couldn’t wear them.

I said no & it’s because I never had to wear maternity clothes 🤷🏼‍♀️ they were all too big on me, I literally was able to wear all of my tops, leggings/sweatpants/yoga pants, bra, everything! So I’m glad I didn’t waste my money. But everyone is different! Do what you think is best for you. If it’s on sale/clearance & you feel that you’ll never find a good deal like that then go for it! But just remember if you go spending a lot of money & it’s too small or big then I doubt you’ll be able to return it since you don’t wear maternity clothes until 2nd/3rd trimester & then that’s money that could have been spent on the baby. Like I said, everyone body is different in each pregnancy & that’s just my opinion.

Before pregnant with my first, no. A friend of mine did that and it just put more pressure on her to conceive and was stressful. After I had my first I bought a couple new maternity pants because I found that I needed to wear them for awhile post partum   (I discovered that I can't lose weight while breastfeeding) and I was planning a 2nd close in age anyway.

I bought a couple of tops that I noticed were very cheap before I eventually fell pregnant.  And when I found out I was pregnant I bought some trousers for work that were cheap.
I problem was I ended up going down two dress sizes due to morning sickness and the weight has still not returned. I ended up having to buy new stuff anyway.  Might’ve not been as bad if I was a bigger person, but I wasn’t that big to begin with so I did try wearing the things I got early on but it was hanging off me and looked silly.

I’d only buy something if it were super marked down. Maybe if a friend was offering a whole maternity wardrobe for cheap or something. There’s a decent chance something you buy before you’re pregnant might not work in pregnancy.
I found my clothing preferences in pregnancy are different than out of pregnancy.
My breasts went up 2 cup sizes by week 6 with both pregnancies, so I had to make clothing adjustments waaay before I had a bump.
I had 2 misscarriages along the way, so some of my maternity clothes fit at the wrong time of year (some clothes are really more for second trimester or third trimester). Hard to plan when pregnancy will happen. 
The other thing is that you may be wearing your maternity clothes for a while postpartum (between nursing and body adjustments), so that’s also a consideration.

Totally !!! I didn’t buy much but I got 3 pairs of leggings, 2 dress pants, a few shirts and 2-3 dresses and then 2 outfits of nursing/pregnancy pjs! I have worn them all and will def keep all of it cause it will be nice to wear post baby!
