If you’re obese and pregnant is it healthy to lose weight rather than gain it?

The newest guidelines actually recommend obese women to gain anywhere from 0-5 lbs during their entire pregnancy. My OB specializes in obesity and bariatric medicine on top of being an OBGYN. She said she's had bariatric patients get pregnant within 6 months of having surgery (although they are advised not to) and end up with a perfectly healthy 7 lb baby despite having lost 80-100 lbs during their pregnancy. She explained that every extra pound of fat we have is 10 days of nutrients for the baby. So those of us who begin pregnancy as obese honestly don't need to gain anything. The important thing is to eat healthy, nutritious food and take our prenatals. All that being said, I'd follow what your OB recommends since that's your medical go-to during your pregnancy.

i loat 30lbs with my 1st and so far with my 2nd ive lost 17

I lost alot of weight whe. I was pregnant with my son....like 25-30lbs. I could o ly eat certain things and drink water or I got sick. My baby was perfectly healthy. I wouldnt stress! Congrats on your baby btw 🙂

I’ve only lost 6 pounds, but my ob said I should start working on trying to gain some back. I’m almost 17 weeks. I would definitely talk to your doctor to see what is the best for your situation.
