Cervix...???? Help!

So, I’m 36 weeks and my doctor hasn’t check my cervix. Is that normal? Also, I keep reading about a percentage effaced.... I’m so lost, what does that mean? Help please!

My doctor checks at 38. He said even if things were effaced or dilated doesn’t mean anything. Baby could still be days OR weeks away. 
Look on google images for dilation and effacement charts, it is way easier to look at pics than to have it explained 😉

I don’t think cervix checks are done here, and unless there was some kind of medical reason to check I don’t really see why people do it? It’s not like it makes a difference, not really. 
Same thing with the mucus plug, it seems like people are freaking out over it all the time, but it can still be weeks until you give birth. I dunno why this is grinding my gears so much.😂😒 #hormonal

Yup normal, they're technically unnecessary because that doesn't really say anything but you can always ask for a cervical exam! I did all the time with my first because I was so excited

I personally wouldn’t get my cervix checked until I was in labor or at least believed I was in labor. It increases the risk of infection and no one needs that. 💗

In the UK they don’t check your cervix unless it’s absolutely necessary... we also now don’t get offered a membrane sweep until you are past your due date xxx

My dr doesn’t check until 39 weeks because they are unnecessary. I requested one at 38 weeks because I was curious.

I’m 35 weeks and at my last appointment I told my midwife that I have an enormous amount of pressure. She asked if I wanted to be checked and I said as long as it won’t increase the chances of infection or preterm labor and she said that it would not so I let her do it. I’m 2cm dilated and 30% effaced and then she commented that my cervix is EXTREMELY low. This is my third baby so based on that I could go at anytime or in 4 weeks you just never know. 
I know several mamas who were dilated to a 3 and such for well over a month so I just think it’s hard to tell when things are going to happen and you really can’t predict it either way unless you are in active labor. Good luck mama!
