You can sometimes get a positive opk and not ovulate within the 12-36 hours. Your body basically gears up to ovulate but then fails to do so. Usually when this happens you ovulate later in your cycle.
This is why a lot of ladies will say to do bbt charting alongside opk's as opk's only detect the surge they don't confirm whether you've ovulated. Bbt charting confirms you have ovulated and when.
