Fizzy drinks ?!

Question

Can someone please tell me why fizzy drinks are basically not allowed while pregnant? 
I drink 7up free (which claims to be free of sugar) 
And I’ve been told not to drink fizzy drinks at all.... why is that?

Because there’s an army of nerds who want pregnant women to sit alone for 9 months in a padded room being gently spoon fed steamed broccoli, so they sit on the Internet and write scary sounding blogs and articles about all the ways you can make your baby have grow a third arm.

I have never heard that and drink plenty of fizzy drinks including soda water all thru my 3 pregnancies so far. Everything in moderation. I probably average 5 a week. Plus I drink coffee and tea almost daily.

There’s some evidence that artificial sweeteners are bad for baby. And you’re supposed to limit caffeine to 200mg/ day to reduce your chance of miscarriage. But carbonation isn’t going to hurt your baby... Maybe your teeth, which can be more vulnerable (not just sugar, but the acid in sodas - even flavored seltzer’s are very acidic).

There's caffeine in most & u need to avoid that , some women get heart burn or upset stomach from the gas bubbles but my doctor hasn't said anything about soda

I drank Fanta my entire pregnancy & my baby was fine, I’ve also never suffered from heartburn

I believe it’s the high sugar and caffeine content in them.  My midwife said it’s fine in moderation though.  All I ever drank before pregnancy was fizzy drinks, then from I found out I was pregnant I didn’t have any until 11 weeks when Coca Cola seemed to become one of my cravings (I always preferred Pepsi before now I can’t touch it now) 😅 I limit myself to 2 a day at the most.  I’m sure it’s fine!

I wasn't told that I'm not allowed to drink fizzy drinks. I just have to have it in moderation cos there's caffeine in alot of them.

I was not told to avoid fizzy drinks, just to watch my sugar and caffeine intake incase of gestational diabetes. Now that i'm in my third trimester, I drink tonic water to ease the leg cramps.

I havent heard that... obviously they’re not the most healthy drinks, but I think they’re fine in moderation. Except for those that are full of caffeine, like coke.
