Failed 1 Hour Glucose

Hi Mamas -

I failed my 1 hour glucose test with slight elevated numbers again (same as with my first pregnancy).

When I took the three hour during my first pregnancy I passed no problems. But felt horrible the entire rest of the day.

So I asked my ob to skip the three hour this time. She said fine, as long as I was willing to do at home monitoring.

Has anyone else opted to do this? It seems like a bigger pain than just feeling horrible for a day.

Any insights would be helpful! TY!

I would have done the 3 hour glucose just so you know you are safe. I am sorry you went through that :(

I think I would have done the 3-hour test given that you were negative the first time. Having a GD diagnosis often means more pressure for interventions during labor and delivery then you would otherwise want/have. Often doctors will pressure you toward early inductions, baby size monitoring, blood sugar tests for baby, etc.I say this as a mom who had GD in my first pregnancy and again now in my second. I did forgo the 3-hour test this time, but only because my history and test results were not in favor of passing. Luckily mine is well controlled with diet and I will be pushing back against any additional testing/interventions I don’t want.

I did 2 weeks of at home monitoring instead of my 1 hour (still vomiting and didn’t want to chance having to do the test over). It wasn’t bad. I did a fasting finger stick every morning the 1 hour after one of my meals each day and took the numbers in for review.
