any tips for having your period during school? I just got mine over the summer and it’s super heavy, and some of my teachers won’t let me go to the bathroom in the middle of class, but I don’t want to bleed through either. also, my mom and I are talking to my doctor soon about starting birth control to help lighten it. Has anyone else tried that?

One thing I did in middle school and high school when I was on my period and teachers were too stupid to realize girls that age need to be allowed to go to the bathroom was embarrass the crap out if the teachers by saying things like "If you don't let me go to the bathroom you'll have to clean blood off of your chair." Trust me they'd let me go then. Be honest and be blunt about it because too many teachers are just stubborn and ignorant about teenage girls. I'd be in so much pain and the teacher wouldn't want me to go to the nurse because they didn't want me to talk the nurse into sending me home so I'd be like "listen I'm not trying to go home, I just need some ibuprofen to stop my menstrual cramps so I can focus in your class." Teachers will listen more when you get real with them. Another thing is to always make sure you have tampons, pads, a cup in your purse at all times. I would even have a change of pants and underwear if you bleed heavy. I went to the gynecologist when I was 15 for heavy bleeding and severe pain and was put on a birth control pill called Loestrin. I took it until I was 18 and when I stopped it my periods stayed light, short and regulated though my menstrual pain stayed the same.
