Painting laminate furniture

We were planning on getting new bedroom furniture before we found out we were expecting. Due to complications with my pregnancy, I have been on medical leave from work...which means we have less money coming each month than we anticipated prior to the baby coming.

So my thoughts are to paint our existing furniture but it’s like that pressed wood covered in laminate, green & black laminate 😤.

Can this be painted?? Our wall colour is grey and the baby furniture is all white...so I’m also asking what colour should we paint our furniture?
