When to take baby to the dentist?

My baby is 18 months and he has all teeth in the front and 4 back teeth. 
The doctor suggested I take him so they clean up his teeth just so when he goes the second time he won’t be scared if that makes any sense.
I asked my mom what she thought and she’s a negative person most of the time so she said no it’s a bad  idea they will hurt him.
I feel like I should listen to a doctor and other moms who have children around the same age as mine instead.
So I want to know when should I take my son to the dentist if now or in a few months???

Your first instinct is to listen to your doctor and that’s correct. The sooner you get him in to the dentist the better off you’ll be.  Or only will you ensure his teeth are healthy, but you’ll also be able to start good habits for his oral health.

My pediatrician said to wait until 2 years old. We brush his teeth twice a day. We took him to his first dental appointment at 2 1/2 and he cried a little bit not because he was hurt. We took him to a place that specializes in children’s dentistry

My daughters dentist said they want to see kids soon as they get their first tooth

My dentist wanted to see my baby once her first tooth was in, to evaluate her overall mouth health too.
She's now 10 months with 8 teeth, and we just were so busy that her first appointment is just now scheduled for in a few days. They said it was okay, they recommended an appointment for sure by age 1, with or without teeth yet.
Definitely take that baby to the dentist.

my pediatrician recommended brushing yo start with a soft wash cloth before she even had teeth.
her first tooth was at 4 months. brushing with a brush, twice a day since then.
first dentist visit was at 6 months and every 6 months since. because she was introduced to them, early,  she has absolutely no anxiety when we go in. 
every 6 months,  is what's recommended. our daughter is 21 months and has all her teeth including her 2 year old molars. 
pediatrician said it is important to brush well twice a day and go for semi annual dental visits. so we do.

I was told by one pediatrician to take them after they get all their teeth, so I tried but no dentist would see them until they were four and acted like I was crazy to want to take them that early. Also insurance wouldn't cover it until four either.

Our daughter's first dentist appointment will be on October 18th, six days before she turns one. I read a lot of different age ranges online, but our pediatrician recommended between six and twelve months. We decided to just schedule her appointment right before her first birthday. She will go every six months just like my husband and I do.

We took our son for the first time at 12 months, just to start getting him used to it. It was a kid specific dentist and all they did was show him around the office and brush his teeth, plus talk to us about dental health for kids. I can’t see it being anything but positive. It’s something they’ll need to do their whole lives, so might as well start early!
