not the popular or right thing to do but once our wedding got close we started trying, I was 4 weeks on our wedding day

You should wait at least a year. The first year of marriage is hard enough without adding a baby to the mix and you have time to enjoy it being just the two of you and working out the dynamics of being husband and wife. Plus it give you time to save up and prepare for baby.

I think it’s completely up to you. My fiancé and I are getting married in January and we’ll have been together nearly 6 years at that point. But, we’re waiting at least another 4 years before we decide to try to have a baby. I’m currently doing my residency and have another 4 years till I’m done. While I could have a baby during that time, I wouldn’t get maternity leave (the university needs to have full spots in the program so they’d have to fill my spot). I’d still finish my residency, but I’d have to wait for a new spot to open up (I’d be guaranteed a spot). That could take years. So it’s just not a good idea for to start trying now. 
Granted my fiancé and I will be 29 and 28 respectively in 4 years. We’ll both be making excellent salaries at that time too. So not being in school, being financially stable and both settled in good professions is a good time for us to start trying. For someone else, starting to try on your first night as man and wife works better for them! There’a no right or wrong time at all!!
