Unexpected delivery

Ashley

My sweet boy made his appearance this week!! 🤗

My original due date was August 6th, but because of gestational diabetes I was being induced July 31st at 39 weeks.

But on Monday this past week I went in for one of my weekly non stress tests and baby wasn’t moving much, his heart rate got very low a couple times too, so they sent me to have an ultrasound which he also failed, they didn’t like how lethargic he was acting, so I was sent to labor and delivery. After more monitoring the on call doctor felt that my placenta was crashing and thought it was best to induce THAT DAY! I was pretty shocked and really nervous, but of course whatever we needed to do to keep baby safe. Sooo I called my husband and told him “btw we’re having a baby today” he started rushing to make last minute arrangements for our other two kids (which didn’t go well) threw a bag together and met me at the hospital. I was already 100% effaced and dilated 2cm, so they started me on pitocin around 4pm... by 6pm the contractions were starting to get painful, at 11pm I was 3.5 cm and they broke my water to get things moving along more, from that point on the contractions consistently got worse, they checked my cervix at around 3:45am and I was at 5cm, the pain was unbearable! I knew I didn’t want an epidural, so I asked for something else for the pain, which didn’t have time to work because 15 minutes later I started feeling intense pressure with each contraction, I said I think I need to push, they checked me and I was 9 cm already! Within minutes (and only a few pushes) he was out! It went so fast at the end! And a little scary because the cord was wrapped around his neck, but at 4:09am our little Owen Reid was born, he weighed 6lbs 15oz, 19.25 inches long, and was perfectly healthy 💙💙💙

I’ve had a hard time dealing with the unexpected delivery, I had so many things I still needed/wanted to get done this week, and I was very sad that my doctor wasn’t there to deliver him (she was on vacation this week) it’s been an emotional roller coaster for sure, but I’m so in love with my sweet boy! And I’m so happy that he was ok.
