Will Jacob be called Jake automatically?

My cousins name is Jacob and I have never heard anyone call him Jake.. my aunt always told people she didn't like Jake and like I said he's 13 now and no one I know has ever referred to him as Jake! I imagine you would have to correct people a couple times but eventually I think people would get it.

I use to work with a Jacob and went to school with one and never thought about calling them Jake. Thinking about calling them Jake sounds weird lol. I don’t think it’s an automatic thing for most people.

Some people just automatically call me Sam, but most ask if I prefer Sam or Samantha. I’m good with either so if they just assume and call me Sam, I don’t correct them, but I imagine if I did they would respect that. 
Of course that doesn’t mean your child won’t decide himself that he likes to go by Jake, and I don’t think you can tell him “no your name is Jacob”

My boyfriend's name is Jacob. I and everyone else calls him Jake. it seems like a short name that not many would shorten but it seems to naturally happen that way.

I introduce myself as Samantha but they will always end up calling me Sam. When I was little, my parents would introduce me as Samantha, but they would always end up calling me Sam or Sammy.
You’ll just have to keep correcting people until he starts to correct them himself.

Since Jacob is short enough I don’t think it’ll be automatic. Longer names tend to get the automatic nicknames

my cousins name is Jacob and we call him Jake, he likes it though, but i’ve never heard anyone else call him that unless we introduce him as that. if we introduce as Jacob they call him that, if we introduce as Jake they call him that. also close family members call him Jacobi for fun lol
