I was just told a couple of days ago about a lady who's name is Elizabeth but grew up being called Molly. That wasn't her middle name or anything, it was just the nickname that they came up with for her. So that being said, Lainey is totally okay!

I think you should just name her Lainey. 🤷🏼‍♀️ especially since as she gets older, you really can’t control what nickname her friends give her, and she may really love being called Lily!

My name is Elizabeth and I’ve always gone by Ellie, which is kind of a stretch but when it’s what you introduce your kid as and what everyone knows them by it just sticks.

It's not that much of a stretch. If you introduce her as Lainey and she goes by Lainey then you are a lot less likely to have people calling her Lilly. No rule against it lol.
