How would you describe the duties/job of being a nanny?

(Not a babysitter) 
I am a full time nanny for two children. These children expect me to play with them for 8 hours straight - but I don’t feel that my job is to play for 8 hours. Of course I should engage with them and participate in games and entertain at points in the day. I should feed them, help clean up the house after the kids, enforce rules and ensure safety. 
I do everything with them:
Games, bath time, prep all meals, pool, doctor appointments, educational time everyday, crafts, bike riding and exercise, read books, clean, museums, really anything you can think of when it comes to children 
But I think the kids should be able to play alone sometimes and I shouldn’t be expected to play with the kids constantly for 8 hours a day everyday. If they do anything alone they lose patience and freak out because I’m not giving them undivided attention. Sometimes I feel guilty that I’m taking 20-30 minutes to myself. 
 
What do you think the main duties of a nanny are? How would you describe the job?

You should be doing what the parents expect from you, not the children. I agree though, it’s feeding, cleaning, disciplining if needed, playing and engaging at certain times of the day, could be driving them to places, teaching them little everyday things.

I'm also a nanny and I agree with you. There are other things to be done besides playing all day. Plus you need down time as well. Try suggesting ideas to them, "Why don't you guys play that board game you like?" Or "How about playing with the hula hoop in the backyard?" All the kids I've cared for know that I play with them and spend time with them, but that I need to do other things as well, like clean up, cook, prep for bath or to go to dance lessons, etc. It's important for kids to learn to entertain themselves (without electronics) and use their imaginations. So definitely be sure to play/read/craft something with them, and spend quality time together each day, that way when you do need to get things done and you redirect them to play independently you know that you've done your job and that you have nothing to feel bad about.

I’m a nanny and most of the time now they go off and do things on their own. They don’t want to playwright me very often, I usually cook and clean while their off doing their own thing. I try to keep myself busy since it’s pretty boring when they don’t want anything to do with you lol

can you involve them in the stuff you are doing? cooking, cleaning? maybe do a craft time where they sit at the table and make/draw stuff while you do stuff you need to do?
