Induction? FTM

Question

What can I expect my induction to be like? I wasn't expecting to be induced, so I really know nothing about the process. Is it more painful than going into labor on your own? Does it progress quicker? Please share your experiences

I showed up for my induction at 39 weeks, got the suppository that thins your cervix and was told they would start pitocin in about 5 hours.... then my water broke and I went into labor on my own and had him three hours later 😂

Hey, so I was induced in the end too at 38+4. I had a pessary for 24hrs- nothing happened, they then broke my waters and gave me 4 hours grace - nothing happened. We then started the piticin drip an started upping the dose- nothing happened for 4 hours and then BOOM! Full on contractions with no build up to 100% and no restbite in between. One on top of the other. It was unbearable. I had an epidural at this point as I couldn’t handle the pain. I had planned a hypno birth! After 22hrs I hadn’t dilated so I had an emergency c section.
It doesn’t happen like this for everyone but this was my experience. A friend was induced 2 weeks before and she had gas and air and vaginal birth and loved her experience. I was unlucky.
If I could do it again I’d have the epidural but in honesty if given the choice I’d opt straight for c section. You can prepare for that and it’s less traumatic for you and lo if planned.

It progresses quicker and makes things a lot more intense faster. Midwife said most need the epidural which I already had due to very long labour

I was induced at 41 weeks. They broke my water and started me on the pitocen right away. The pitocen does make the contractions more painful. I had my guy within 6.5 hours. Nurses were surprised, i guess even with the pitocen first births take a while. You dr may not start you in it right away or they make not break your water right away. Your best bet is to ask your dr what the standard is for starting your induction and go from there.

it is more painful than naturally going into labor because it FORCES your body into labor. I had the foley bulb which gave me immediate contractions and was admitted to the maternity ward. definitely painful, but the epidural was amazing. My son was born within 26 hours. They broke my water the next morning at 7AM. i wasn't dilated at all, when 9am came around I was at a 3, then a 5 at 12PM. my son was born 3:45PM vaginally. the epidural was my life savior

I was induced at 38&2 with my first, I wasn’t dilated or anything at all beforehand so it took 16 hours with Pitocin.  I did get an epidural so it wasn’t that bad. Having to lay around for that long and not being able to eat wasn’t the greatest. Once they broke my water I wasn’t allowed up to the bathroom, had to use a bedpan so that would’ve been nice to know. I think everyone’s bodies react to the induction agents differently. It might go better if you are already starting to dilate. I went into labor on my own with my second, totally different experience, much more intense contractions and only 4 hours of labor.

I had a pretty good induction experience. I was induced at 39+1. The night before I had a Foley catheter placed in my cervix/uterus. When I went in the next morning I was already at 4cm. Pitocin started at 8:30, water broken right after. Pains were low and slow at first, but they upped my Pitocin every 30min, so they got strong pretty quick. I ended up getting an epidural at 2:45 and delivered at 7:02 after 1.5 hrs pushing. We did have to talk about all the interventions at some point as my daughter’s heart rate was dropping, but she delivered well anyway (although her head was slightly turned and broke my tailbone 😂).
