I am on subutex for opioid dependence and I am 3 months pregnant. My psychiatrist says the baby will go through withdrawals whenever I come off of it, whether before or after birth. I want to start weaning off in the 2nd trimester. My doc seems to be leaning toward thinking it’s better to wait until after the baby comes. He said the withdrawal the baby may have can be managed at the hospital although the baby may have to stay longer. I am 110% not okay with that. I feel like that is putting something on my baby that is cruel and just an ugly way to start life. It is not my Little’s fault that I became addicted. I will be getting a second opinion from my obstetrician next week. I’m hoping they support weaning off. I’m on a low dose (6 months) and think I can be off of it by the 3rd trimester.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Opinions? I appreciate any information kindly! Thank you!
