Would you lie for your child? *TW*

If this has been posted before let me know I’ll remove.

September of last year a young man I went to school with went missing. Shortly after his disappearance another guy was arrested and charged for his murder although no body had been found. 6 weeks later they found his body on moorland and arrested the suspects parents as well. Briefly, during the parents prison visits with their son whilst he was on remand the police bugged their conversations and that is what lead them to finding the body, apparently they would have never found him if they hadn’t done recorded their conversations. In the recordings the son described/bragged about the murder and what he did with the body and the parents assured him they would go to the site of the body and destroy it so there was no further evidence to implicate their son. They’ve all been found guilty, the son sentenced to 31 years and the parents sentenced to 2 years each.

It’s such a heartbreaking and disturbing story, and I think the parents are disgusting but then again I also wouldn’t know if it’s natural(?) to go that far to protect your child regardless of what they’ve done? I asked my dad and he said he wouldn’t hand any of his children in but he’d “make” them do the right thing.

So my question is if your child committed a serious crime would you lie/give them an alibi or would you report them/hand them in?
